Recycling and Waste Management

Do you know that Atlanta is ranked among the five most wasteful cities in the United States???

Students Organizing for Sustainability and Environmental Alliance at Georgia Tech are working together to expand and improve our campus recycling program.  We are also investigating possible methods of implementing a compost system for food scraps and other biodegradable waste.

First steps in this campaign are to

  1. Raise awareness
  2. Build support
  3. Educate members of the GT community about the importance of using proper recycling practices as part of an overall waste reduction plan
  4. Work one-on-one with the various departments on campus to make sure they are using sustainable purchasing (recycled paper, etc.) and waste disposal guidelines.

We will also survey the campus to identify top priority locations for new recycling bins.  Ultimately, we will work with campus administration, SGA, and facilities to evaluate possibilities such as single-stream recycling and composting on campus and develop a business plan for creating a more responsible waste management system at Georgia Tech.
